We would like to clarify certain inaccurate media reports. Please be informed that-
- Madam Ng Lee Lee is the sole proprietor of Little Yap Resources (201703093426 (2631696-P)). The said business supplies, distributes and promotes the sales of mobile accessories, amongst others, the iBoîte media box. iBoîte media box is a hardware that allows users to store media files and/or access the Internet. At all material times, the said media boxes have complied with the rules and regulations in Malaysia.
- On 12 December 2019, a raid was conducted by the authorities at the business premise of Little Yap Resources at Puchong. Contrary to what was reported in the news, the raid was not conducted at a residence. During the raid, approximately 55 units of iBoîte media box were seized. According to the charge sheets, a total of six (6) units of iBoîte media boxes were found to be an infringement of section 232(2) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
- On 16 February 2021, Madam Ng Lee Lee was charged with six (6) charges at the Shah Alam Sessions Court under section 232(2) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. After pleading guilty to all the six (6) charges, the Sessions Court Judge Tuan Muhamad Anas bin Mahadzir imposed a fine of RM5,000.00 for each charge and a month’s jail for each charge if she defaults payment. She had then paid a total of RM30,000.00 in fine.
- In relation to a report made by a local online news outlet, we would like to clarify that Madam Ng Lee Lee did not state that she was aware of the offence but decided to do so as the business had dropped by 80% due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In making her plea at the Court on 16 February 2021, she merely mentioned that she cannot afford to pay a large sum of fine as the business had dropped by 80% in the year 2020 after the raid in 2019 and was further impacted by the pandemic.
